Performance Assessments (edTPA and PPAT)
All teacher candidates in teacher preparation program must pass a performance assessment (edTPA or PPAT) according to the State of Delaware guidelines for institutional recommendation for certification. The following links provide information about the performance assessment, including how to register for the edTPA and PPAT and video recording resources.
- Elementary Teacher Education and all of the concentrations in this program
- Exceptional Children and Youth – 4+1 and MPCP
- Foreign Language Education
- Health and Physical Education
- Music Education
- Secondary English Education
- Secondary Mathematics Education
- Secondary Science Education
- TESL (graduate program)
Create an edTPA Account
The first step in registering for the edTPA is to create an account. The edTPA Registration Overview explains how to create an account and complete the registration questions. In addition, read the Register webpage, including the links to the Getting Started and Candidate Policies webpages.
Purchase the edTPA
You can purchase the edTPA for $300 during the registration process with a credit card or a voucher number/code. You can request to purchase a voucher through Barnes & Noble bookstore by emailing Michelle Righos at firstname.lastname@example.org. Vouchers purchased at the bookstore may be covered by financial aid, depending on your financial aid package; you can contact Student Financial Services to find out if the voucher would be covered in your situation.
Determine Your edTPA Platform
The last step in the registration process is to select your portfolio system: 1) edTPA Platform provider or 2) Pearson ePortfolio.
Taskstream is an edTPA platform provider. Your teacher preparation program may require you to prepare your portfolio in your Taskstream account because of the many features available in this platform.
- If you prepare your portfolio in Taskstream, then refer to the Taskstream edTPA Guide to transfer your portfolio to the Pearson ePortfolio system and officially submit it. You will need an authorization key to transfer your portfolio.
- If your program does not require you to use Taskstream, then you could prepare your portfolio in the Pearson ePortfolio system.
Check the Deadlines
The deadlines for submitting your portfolio and receiving your edTPA scores are available through the following links.
- Submission and reporting dates for initial submissions and for full-assessment retakes
- Submission and reporting dates for partial retakes

Register for the PPAT
The PPAT Registration webpage explains how to create an account and answer the prompts during the registration process.
For the Spring 2019 semester, you must register for the PPAT by February 13, 2019.
Purchase the PPAT
You can purchase the PPAT for $300 during the registration process with a credit card, eCheck, PayPal, or a voucher code. You can request to purchase a voucher through Barnes & Noble bookstore by emailing Michelle Righos at email@example.com. Vouchers purchased at the bookstore may be covered by financial aid, depending on your financial aid package; you can contact Student Financial Services to find out if the voucher would be covered in your situation.
If you meet certain eligibility criteria, then you may qualify for a fee reduction. The Fee Reductions webpage describes the eligibility criteria and application process.
Check the Deadlines
PPAT TASKS must be submitted according to the specific date and time deadlines .
Resubmissions also follow a specific timetable. Information is listed on the Deadlines and Dates Registration webpage.
Review Your Scores
The passing score according to the State of Delaware guidelines is 38. You will receive your scores approximately three weeks after the submission deadline in your online account. The Scores webpage provides information about your scores, including how to send your scores and resubmit a task. You must pass the PPAT to receive institutional recommendation for certification.
If you are seeking licensure/certification in a state that requires the edTPA (e.g., New Jersey, New York) and your program requires the PPAT, then talk with your program coordinator about which performance assessment you should complete. You must have approval from your program coordinator to take a performance assessment different from the one required by your program. When you receive approval, please notify the UD teacher certification officer that you will be completing the edTPA instead of the PPAT for institutional recommendation for certification.
